The Medieval Chora of the island is different from any other you have seen. Built in a semi-circle with old mansions and cobbled streets as if it embraces the Castle found on its top, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Before going to the Chora you can walk around Skala, the port of the island. Enjoy your food and drink.

What must you see on the island?

  • You cannot go to Patmos and not visit the Monastery of Saint John the Theologian, located on top of the Chora.
  • The Simantiri Mansion
  • Emmanouil Ksanthos’ bust in the City Hall Square.
  • The Cave of the Apocalypse.
  • Prophet Elias chapel with the magical view.
  • The three windmills.

Extra tip: If you have a few days ahead, take a boat trip to Leipsoi or Marathi and Arkioi, two islands with fantastic waters, only an hour away from Patmos.

  • Kampos: Organized beach with small pebbles and crystal-clear waters.
  • Kalikatsou: Organized beach with small pebbles and pristine waters. On the left side you can see a huge rock, the most photographed one on the island,
  • Groikos: Maybe our favorite one! A small picturesque cove with green waters and fantastic view.
  • Agrio Livadi: Organized beach with small pebbles and clear waters.
  • Psili Ammos: Access may be difficult, but it is worth it! The wild natural beauty and the peaceful crystal sea will enchant you.
  • Meloi: Fine-pebble beach. Home to the campsite of the island.
